Alaska's largest city, Anchorage is home to more than 230,000 residents, forty percent of the state's population, and serves as the financial, communications and transportation hub of Alaska.
Anchorage is located as far north as Helsinki, Finland, and as far west as Honolulu, Hawaii. The municipal boundaries stretch more than 50 miles, from Portage Glacier to the head of Cook Inlet, encompassing 1,955 square miles, about the same size as the state of Delaware.

The National Civic League named Anchorage one of nine All-America Cities for 2002. Anchorage has won this honor three other times over the past 50 years.
