| KENAI PENINSULA |
Because of the pristine location and sporting opportunities, the Kenai area and its surrounding communities are considered the summer playgrounds for many of the state's local residents.
Perhaps the most famous activity on the Kenai Peninsula is fishing. The Kenai River is among the most famous, most intensely managed, fresh water salmon fishery in Alaska.
The city of Soldotna serves as the central hub of the Kenai Peninsula. The Kenai River winds around Soldotna with a majestic view of volcanic mountains across Cook Inlet.
Bordering the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and other nearby state parks, wildlife opportunities abound. You don't have to look hard to find moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and bears. Both Kenai and Soldotna are approximately 150 road miles and 65 air miles southwest of Anchorage
